A new boutique hotel has opened in Austin’s Bouldin Creek neighborhood, blending the city’s historic charm with modern hospitality. The Inn at Green Pastures occupies the estate where a farmhouse built in 1895 later became a well-known restaurant, now expanded into a 63-room hotel. Designed by Clayton Korte, the property preserves the original farmhouse as Mattie’s, a restaurant and event space, while adding contemporary guest rooms, dining, and event facilities across five acres.
Architecture That Respects the Past
The hotel’s three-story, L-shaped building sits beneath a canopy of more than 220 heritage oak trees, many of which are protected. Parking is underground to maintain the estate’s open feel, while steel-and-wood roof overhangs shield the structure from Austin’s intense afternoon sun. Large windows and high ceilings in guest rooms maximize natural light, and deep bathtubs, marble sinks, and hardwood floors reinforce the raised yet homey aesthetic.
The interiors draw from the surrounding environment, using forest greens, rich browns, and contemporary floral patterns. Custom white oak millwork and embroidered drapery add texture, while crisp pinstripe upholstery balances the warmth with a refined touch. The design avoids formal stiffness, ensuring comfort in both private rooms and shared spaces.
One of the hotel’s standout features is its integration with the estate’s history. Resident peacocks still roam the grounds, and the preserved oak trees create a serene atmosphere just blocks from South Congress Avenue’s busy shops and cultural spots. The property’s layout ensures that guests can step away from the city’s energy while remaining within walking distance.
A Destination Beyond Guest Rooms
The Inn at Green Pastures includes more than just accommodations—it’s designed as a full experience. Henry’s, the all-day restaurant and bar, serves both hotel guests and locals, with seating that overlooks the private pool courtyard. The lounge and casual dining areas extend the estate’s social legacy, offering spaces for gatherings throughout the day.
Event spaces sit alongside the pool, fitness center, and restaurant, providing flexibility for celebrations or quiet retreats. The hotel’s layout encourages movement between indoor and outdoor areas, from shaded courtyards to the poolside lounges. Even the fitness center is positioned to take advantage of natural light and views.
Clayton Korte’s design ensures that every element, from the steel-and-wood roof to the custom millwork, serves a functional purpose while reinforcing the property’s connection to its past. The result is a hotel that feels like an extension of the estate rather than an imposition on it.
Preserving a Legacy
The Inn at Green Pastures is the second phase of a long-term plan to revitalize the historic estate. After restoring the original farmhouse as Mattie’s, the team added the hotel to create a cohesive experience that honors Green Pastures’ legacy. The property’s mix of preserved oaks, peacocks, and modern amenities ensures that visitors can enjoy both tranquility and convenience.
