Independent Hotel Show 2026 looks ahead

The Independent Hotel Show will return to Olympia London on October 5-6, 2026, bringing together hotel owners, operators, designers, and senior decision-makers to discuss trends in the UK’s luxury, boutique, and independent hospitality sector.

Design and technology take center stage

The event, organized with James Hallam Insurance Brokers, will explore the theme Shaping Tomorrow. It will examine how the industry can blend innovation with the unique identity of independent hotels. Sessions will cover changing guest expectations, the importance of flexible design, and the use of new technology to create distinctive yet profitable experiences.

Design partners such as Design Command, Merav Bustan Design, and TUNTU Design will join conversations about how well-planned interiors and adaptable spaces can improve guest satisfaction. The seminar program includes panels like Spaces without boundaries: The future of hotel design, featuring Ben Harper of Watergate Bay Hotel and Matt Hulme of Dynargh Design.

Additional topics will address wellness-focused design, the financial benefits of refurbishment, and accessible hospitality. A Power Hour session will look at sensory branding, showing how hotels can influence guest perception through details like scent, sound, and texture.

Exhibitors showcase solutions for every hotel space

Over two days, visitors can explore products and services for bedrooms, bathrooms, spas, and public areas. Coach House, which provides furniture and lighting, will exhibit alongside Capitol, a supplier of customizable hotel amenities, and Mint Linen, known for its textiles. Zennio will present its automation and room-control systems, demonstrating how technology and interior projects increasingly overlap.

Brewers Decorator Centres and other suppliers specializing in furnishings and guest experience tools will also be present. The show floor will let attendees test new ideas, from premium fixtures to practical operational solutions.

Independent hotels typically work with smaller budgets than large chains, making efficiency a key concern. The event’s focus on adaptable design and affordable upgrades reflects this challenge, though some may wonder how easily smaller properties can adopt the latest trends.

Awards celebrate standout projects

The Independent Hotel Show Awards, held with Preferred Hotels & Resorts, will take place on the first evening. The Hotel Design of the Year shortlist features Calcot Manor & Spa, Cromlix, Miiro Templeton Garden Hotel, Penmaenuchaf, and The Old Bell Hotel. These projects demonstrate how individuality in design helps independent hotels compete in a market dominated by global brands.

For these properties, standing out is not just about appearance but a necessary strategy. The awards highlight how creativity can serve as an advantage.

Trade attendees can register for free on the show’s website. The event remains one of the few in the UK focused exclusively on independent hospitality, providing a space for collaboration away from major hotel groups.
